AHRI Presence in the States

Every year, AHRI advocates in multiple states on behalf of our members and their customers. Each state has a slightly different process, timeline, and political composition, which requires AHRI to remain proactive and engaged on many priorities at once. The map above highlights in yellow states where AHRI has recently been involved in advocacy efforts. For more information, please contact AHRI Government Relations staff.

National Organizations

AHRI is also active in national organizations aimed at fostering relationships and sound public policy at the state level. Participation in these organizations helps spread AHRI’s message and promote our member companies.

National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL)

NCSL is a nonpartisan organization of state legislators from around the country committed to the success of all legislators and staff. Their mission is to improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures, promote policy innovation and communication among state legislatures, and ensure state legislatures a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system.

AHRI is a member of the NCSL Foundation for State Legislatures. This is a distinguished group of leaders who represent the nation’s most prestigious and influential corporations, unions and other organizations in an effort to support NCSL’s mission.

Council of State Governments (CSG)

Founded in 1933, The Council of State Governments is our nation’s only organization serving all three branches of state government. CSG is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy. This offers unparalleled regional, national and international opportunities to network, develop leaders, collaborate and create problem-solving partnerships.

AHRI is a member of the Council of State Governments’ Associate program, which allows representatives of the private sector to offer their perspectives to public sector members. Additionally, AHRI holds a seat on CSG’s Energy and Environment Committee, which provides a forum for state leaders to address emerging challenges and issues arising from dynamic energy-related and environmental conditions. Members of the committee focus on emerging trends, innovative and effective solutions, and viable policy positions and response projects.

Western HVAC Performance Alliance (WHPA)

The Western HVAC Performance Alliance (WHPA) launched in 2009 in response to the California Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan (CEESP) that reads: “An HVAC Advisory Group should be chartered to involve high-level HVAC industry stakeholders—such as manufacturers, distributors, and contractors—to coordinate industry sponsorship of and participation in HVAC strategies. Membership should also include other key players, such as the CPUC, Energy Commission utilities, building owners/managers, consumers, and the Federal government.”

Members of the advisory group provide the California Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs), the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and California Energy Commission (CEC) with expert counsel from the building performance industry regarding heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.

AHRI serves on the Executive Committee of the WHPA.
