Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps Historical Data
Air Conditioners
(except window and wall types)
Single Package with or without evaporator fan:
Report as single package air conditioners with or without evaporator fan, factory-made assemblies of one or more condensing units or absorption refrigeration units having means for cooling and dehumidification. These units may or may not have means for air circulation (fan), ventilation, and air cleaning. (Note: This category now includes the units formerly reported as refrigeration chassis). These units may include or have provision for the addition of heating coils and means for humidifying and control of temperature. Do not report window and wall types of room air conditioners. Include single package (cooling only) roof top units in this category.
Horizontal air conditioners:
Report one piece factory made air conditioner, compressor or absorption with or without fan, which has major components set on a single base pan in a low profile configuration. These units have a means of cooling and dehumidifying and may include or have provision for addition of heating coils. Air flow may be horizontally across the units or down for roof top application.
Remote Condenser Type:
Report as remote condenser type air conditioners all units which have the condenser located remotely from the equipment described above.
Year Round Air Conditioners
(except heat pumps)
Single Package:
Report as single package year round air conditioners, factory made assemblies of one or more condensing units or absorption refrigeration units, a heat-generating unit (such as a gas, electric or oil-fired furnace, or steam and hot water coil), and means for air cooling, dehumidifying, heating, cleaning and forced circulation of air through a duct system and which may also have means for humidifying and control of temperature. Report only those units that are assembled or are designed to be assembled in a single unit (within a single factory made enclosure). Do not report equipment having separate cooling and heating units connected only by duct work. Do not report either heat pumps or room air conditioners. Report “year round roof top” units of all sizes in this category.
Split Systems
Air conditioning condensing units:
Report as air conditioning condensing units, those units which are assembled in factory-made enclosures and consist of a motor driven compressor and a condenser and may include a liquid receiver. Report only those units which are intended for air conditioning purposes and will be installed remotely from the evaporator and require field connection of refrigerant lines. Report as pre-charged condensing units and outside sections of heat pumps only those units that have more than a holding charge and are not intended to have refrigeration added in the field. Also report, those pre-charged air conditioning condensing units which are intended either for use with quick connect couplings or are connected to the evaporator by flexible tubing. Report the BTU capacity of air conditioning condensing units based on the applicable ARI standard using the evaporator coil most closely related to the condensing unit size. Report the evaporator in the appropriate coil section. Also report split absorption cooling units in this category.
Heat Pumps
Single Package:
Report as single package heat pumps, factory made assemblies of one or more condensing units and evaporators and means for air circulation, ventilation and cleaning, with provision for modifying the performance so that either heating or cooling and dehumidification may be produced. Report, in this category, only those units that are assembled or are designed to be assembled in a single unit (within a single factory made enclosure). Do not report room air conditioners which embody the heat pump principal.
Split Heat Pump:
Report as split heat pumps, all of those units which have the coils located remotely from the equipment described above. Report the indoor coil in the appropriate coil section below.
