China IPR Resources

The Department of Commerce designed a toolkit/resource guide to provide general information about intellectual property rights (IPR) protection in China.

Companies must take specific steps to protect their IPR in China because U.S. trademark, design, and patent rights do not provide protection outside of U.S. territories. In China, the enforcement of protection of intellectual property rights is particularly difficult and requires a proactive approach. Without adequate education with regard to IPRs, there is little awareness that infringement is a crime, complicating the problem. The U.S. International Trade Administration provides a great resource for doing business in China and how to protect IP rights: http://export.gov/china/doingbizinchina/riskmanagement/ipr/index.asp
