Program Scope

This program applies to Production Models of Single Packaged Vertical Air Conditioners (SPVA) and Single Packaged Vertical Heat Pumps (SPVH), as defined in Section 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 of the product specific operations manual.

Non-weatherized Space Constrained Products. SPVA and SPVH products, as defined below, shall be included in addition to Section 1.3. A Non-weatherized Space Constrained Product is an SPVA or SPVH that:

  • Is non-weatherized;
  • Has rated Cooling Capacity no greater than 36,000 Btu/h;
  • Is an outdoor or indoor unit where exterior dimensions are substantially:
    • less than 32 inches in width and substantially less than 45 inches in height;
    • smaller than SPVAs and SPVHs currently installed in site-built commercial buildings;
    • smaller than those of other units of a similar Cooling Capacity, and, if a heat pump, Heating Capacity; and
    • smaller than may fit inside of an existing 1,310 square inch wall opening.
  • Draws outdoor air for heat exchange directly through an existing opening, in an exterior wall, used for both inlet and outlet air flow;
  • Is restricted to applications where an existing air-conditioner, heat pump, or gas/electric unit, installed in an existing exterior wall opening, is to be replaced; and
  • Bears a permanent “Replacement” marking, conspicuously placed, and clearly indicating, that its application is limited to installations where an existing air conditioner or heat pump is to be replaced.

Certified Ratings

Certified Ratings for Single Packaged Vertical Air Conditioners

The following certification program ratings are verified by test:

  • AHRI Standard Rating Cooling Capacity, Btu/h
  • Energy Efficiency Ratio, EER, Btu/W
  • Part Load Rating (IPLV), if applicable

Certified Ratings for Single Packaged Vertical Heat Pumps

  • Standard Rating Cooling Capacity, Btu/h
  • Energy Efficiency Ratio, EER, Btu/W
  • Standard Rating Heating Capacity, Btu/h
  • Coefficient of Performance, COP, Btuh/W
  • Part Load Rating (IPLV), if applicable

      The rules and procedures for obtaining and maintaining certification are detailed in the Resources section above. The specific Standard listed above details the technical requirements for rating and publishing your product performance, the AHRI General Operations Manual (OM) details the program operational rules that are generic to all of AHRI’s certification programs and lastly, the Product-specific Operations Manual provides the operational rules that are specific to this program along with the required documents and fees. Please ensure that you are familiar with the latest rules and procedures for this program.
