Join A Certification Program

When specifiers and other decision makers see the AHRI Certified® mark, it provides assurance that equipment will perform as specified — accurately and consistently.

With today’s high energy prices and the need to reduce peak electrical demand, the certification of air conditioning, heating, commercial refrigeration, and water heating equipment performance is critical. It instills consumer confidence that manufacturers’ performance claims are accurate.

Why Certify?

Independently Measured and Verified

Regulators at the federal, state, and local levels are increasingly motivated to depend upon AHRI for the accurate and unbiased evaluation of HVACR equipment. AHRI’s certification programs demonstrate to the government that performance claims have been independently measured and verified. Upon verification, the AHRI Certified® mark is applied to the product to serve as a visual statement of conformance. Learn more about the benefits of certifying your products with AHRI.

What is the difference between certified and rated?

Any manufacturer can claim they have followed the prescribed AHRI Standard rating methodology and claim the equipment has been “rated in accordance” with that standard. However, only those manufacturers that successfully participate in AHRI’s certification programs can claim that their qualifying products are “AHRI Certified ®."

Look for the AHRI Certified mark on HVACR equipment and components or search for certified products listed in the Directory of Certified Product Performance.

Recognized the World Over

AHRI’s certification programs comply with ISO/IEC Standard 17065, which sets the general international requirements for bodies operating product certification systems. Because of this recognition, AHRI’s standards and certification programs are accepted and specified all over the world.

In addition, to facilitate movement of AHRI Certified® products across borders without the need for additional testing, AHRI has developed mutual recognition agreements with other certification bodies such as the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Korea Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Assessment Center and Mexico's Asociación de Normalización y Certificación A.C.

These agreements grant the organizations the license to utilize all AHRI standards for the development of industry standards in their countries.

Who Can Be Certified?

AHRI’s certification programs are voluntary and open to all foreign and domestic Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Private Brand Marketers (PBMs) that produce products, which fall within the scope of one or more of the certification programs.

Many OEMs and PBMs are eligible to participate in multiple AHRI certification programs. In addition, OEMs and PBMs do not have to be AHRI members to participate and their products do not have to be sold in North America. However, certification participants who are AHRI members receive additional benefits such as reduced licensing fees.
